Selecting Rattan Garden Furniture that Fits You!

by admin Leave a Comment

Rattan furniture is one of the greatest kinds of furniture that you can put in your garden, on your patio or in your conservatory. There are many various styles that you can choose from in rattan furniture ranging from traditional dining sets to outdoor day beds and sofa sets. All you have to do is figure out what sort of look you want to achieve.

Selecting Rattan Garden Furniture

The name rattan is given to almost 600 different species of palms that grow in tropical areas of Africa, Australia, and Asia. It’s a kind of long vine found in tropical areas in the world. Canes are cut from the rattan tree and split into sections. These sections are put through a steaming process that makes them soft and pliable, so they can be made into the different shapes and sizes to make furniture.

The traditional look of rattan garden furniture has solid teak frames with rattan woven around to make it look authentic. This is a highly durable combination. A new type of manufacturing replaces the solid teak frame with powder coated aluminum that’s resistant to rust.

It’s very easy to maintain rattan as it doesn’t need to be oiled, moisturized or sanded. Rattan keeps its shape, strength and color for many years. To clean it, you simply use a water hose or power washer. Minor cleaning can be performed by using a damp cloth to wipe it down. Rattan can easily withstand the outdoor elements. Lightweight, yet strong, rattan is ideal for rough activities. It’s even safe for kids to be around. For those on a budget, rattan furniture is a great cost effective direction to go in. It also has a very long life span.

If you decide to buy some rattan furniture for the outdoors, pay attention to the diameter of the stem because this means it’s of higher quality. This is usually about 1 inch around. Look for a smooth texture that has no strands sticking out from it. The grades of rattan are A, B, and C with Grade A being the highest quality, having a smooth texture and similar all over color. Grade B is slightly rougher, and Grade C has a very rough surface with minor defects.

Remember to buy your rattan furniture only from reputable companies that provide a warranty. This warranty should be at least 12 months in duration.
